Ansys Maxwell & Motor CAD(LF) 2025 R1 Updates

Maxwell – Built in fast PWM excitation setting of windings:

This feature automatically adds the datasets for 3 phase Y connected windings and modifies the excitation inputs with the pwl() function. Moreover, it produces a variable step size data set according to the desired PWM excitation voltage.

Maxwell – Faster Transient Analyses:

Reduce analysis time by selecting the field calculation geometric domains, which save only fields for objects of interest. This results in reduced data footprint (less disk space required) and simulation speed-up postprocessing and expression cache.

Maxwell – Fast Excitation Setup for Frequency Sweeps:

Frequency domain excitation is derived from a transient signal using FFT-based datasets. Features include an optional noise threshold, automatic generation of magnitude and phase angle datasets, and frequency-dependent excitation in frequency sweeps. The system also verifies whether the solved frequency is present in the excitation dataset, with interpolation not permitted in the frequency domain.

MotorCAD – Axial-Flux Machine Permanent-Magnet Motor Type:

A new motor type has been introduced in Motor-CAD, featuring three topologies: a single rotor with one stator, dual rotors with a double-sided stator, and a double-sided rotor with two stators. It includes E-Mag and Lab modules, with FEA calculations based on an equivalent linear model that represents the “unwound” geometry of an axial flux machine (AFM).

MotorCAD – Speed-Up for Induction Machine Calculations:

Steady-state convergence for induction motors (IMs) has been improved with ramped current excitation, significantly enhancing performance in high-slip operation. The approach supports both linear and sinewave amplitude ramp-up and can be combined with “locked-rotor initialization” for optimized results.
